DEAR JESSICA, PLEASE INTRODUCE YOURSELF AND SHARE WITH US IN A FEW SENTENCES WHAT YOU DO. I have been dedicated to my sustainable label 8 Eden Avenue for over 10 years. We produce handmade cashmere scarves that are spun, woven and embroidered by hand by our Indian weavers in Almora/Himalaya. The idea behind this is to highlight the people behind the product and to really question what luxury and especially - luxury in fashion - can and should mean nowadays. We only work with the purest Mongolian cashmere and provide the families of the weavers with medical care and schooling for their children for a better future in the long term. To enable the women and their families to do this to a certain extent is meaningful luxury for me, because it is mutual.
WHAT FASCINATES YOU ABOUT THE WORK OF TANJA HIRSCHFELD? Tanja's creations and artworks have appealed to me from the very beginning, especially since she works with strong images of women from different cultures. Both of us are interested in showing and expressing the strength but also the vulnerability and sensuality of women. It is a tribute to the emotional strength of women, that women naturally own. Tanja is a very talented artist, who despite her success has always remained authentic and herself. I admire her for that.
HOW DID THE COOPERATION WITH 8 EDEN AVENUE AND TANJA COME UP AND WHAT IS THE IDEA BEHIND IT? Tanja and I have wanted to work together for quite some time. We have known each other for a long time and value our projects very much - it was obvious that it would work out at some point. Our inspiration for the new collection is an homage to four strong women in the history of art and their wonderful way of working also in terms of craftsmanship: Louise Bourgeois, Kiki Smith, Mamma Andersson und Sophie Taeuber Arp. We have dedicated a scarf to each of these artists this season and Tanja has reinterpreted their artistic characteristics. The connection to our weavers lies in their passion for craftsmanship, quality and textiles.
In addition to the HW collection co-designed by the artist, some of her images were also embroidered on the cashmere scarves.
