About 100 kilometers north of Berlin, in Mecklenburg, lies the Forsthaus Strelitz - a hidden jewel in which an ingenious mix of experimental and regional organic cuisine is served at a high level.
With eight guest rooms - sheep, pigs, cows and donkeys graze behind the house, Wenzel Pankratz works on the stove. He has taken over the small estate by the forest from his father and brought it back to life with great sensitivity. Pankratz previously worked for Bobby Bräuer in Kitzbühel, the Facil restaurant in Berlin and the 3-star chef Andreas Caminada in Schloss Schauenstein.
The guest room are a successful mixture of Scandinavian-cool and cozy, with warm colors and lots of wood. In summer the Forsthaus Strelitz is particularly pretty when you can sit under the old chestnut-trees on the terrace.
Almost everything that Pankratz prepares and serves over an open fire, is grown and produced by himself (double room incl. breakfast from approx. 70 €, www.forsthaus-strelitz.de).
