Manuka Honey contains MGO - Methylglyoxal, which is found in the pollen of the Manuka bush flowers, collected by the bees and brought to the beehive. This MGO has this famous antibacterial effect, which is maintained even when liquid is added (as in teas or wounds). In normal honeys, the antibacterial effect is produced by a hydrogen peroxide reaction, but this is neutralized when liquid is added. This is a good thing, otherwise the honey would not be eatable.
AND HOW DID YOU COME UP WITH THE IDEA TO EVEN START YOUR OWN COSMETIC LINE WITH IT?I have been importing cosmetics from New Zealand for many years and know the honey from there. Through these years of experience, I know how effective Manuka honey is, especially on damaged skin. Then, the studies by Prof Henle of the TU Dresden came out and the MGO effect was scientifically proven. An MGO factor of 100 is used for wound care in hospitals. It was clear to me that my products for facial care must contain this regenerating and "repairing" effect of Manuka honey.
