Denise Ruigrok van der Werven has been inspiring the fashion world with her minimalist bag designs since 2016. She studied graphic design in Rotterdam and then at the Artemis Styling Academy in Amsterdam. For some time she also worked as a freelance stylist. But then she decided to follow her dream and launch her own bag brand.

Denise's background in design and fashion is immediately apparent in her creations.

Clear lines combined with beautiful materials and a lot of attention to detail - that's how you could describe the style of the label. The bags are highly functional and polish up every look at the same time. They are anything but loud, and still a fashion highlight. This is due to the knot handle found on every bag, which has become the trademark of the label. Ruigrok van der Werven stands for luxurious leather bags that do without large logos or flashy colors. Instead, in addition to the classics, the label focuses on elegant tones such as warm yellow or sweet pink.

For Denise Ruigrok van der Werven, the choice of naturally tanned leather is self-explanatory - simply because it is better for the environment. "No chemicals are used in tanning. It is important to me to be part of a fair process," explains the founder.

That's why the label has had all bags handmade in Italy since day one, and fair wages are guaranteed. But the country offers even more advantages as a production location: The staff there is well trained and they have been working with leather for generations. Transparency is the top priority. Denise is happy with her decision: "It is a very special feeling when you design a bag, and it then arrives at the office from the factory in Italy. I am very lucky that they always create exactly what I have in mind".
